Canadian digital artist Andrea Tamme, better known online as Lothlenan, has put together a unique and exciting project. The artist took classical paintings and redesigned them to include some major modern pop-culture icons, including references to Adventure Time, The Legend of Zelda, Rick and Morty, and more. These pieces of Lothlenan art were inspired by Tamme studying the painting “Mr. and Mrs. Andrews” by Thomas Gainsborough. Lothlenan said she got the idea to replace one of the characters with Lemongrab, a character from Adventure Time. Her friends loved the new picture, and so the new line of Lothlelan art was born.
Lothlenan doesn’t miss a single detail in her art, whether it be the loose brushstrokes of Monet or the effort Fragonard put into the foliage in paintings. This is more than just an experiment in fandom; it’s also helping Lothlenan understand how to capture different art styles using digital software. Lothlenan says that the paintings were an exercise in salvaging texture through digital painting. The new images are whimsical and enjoyable masterpieces that are sure to delight and amuse any geek or art lover.
