This book goes back a way. It is set in the 1870s and follows the story of Dr. Spencer Black, who is the son of a grave robber. In addition to his studies of medicine, Dr. Black has an unusual obsession with mutation. It has made him believe that humans evolved from mermaids, minotaurs, chimera, and other mythical creatures. Call him a mad genius if you’d like but one thing is for sure, Dr. Black is as unorthodox as they come. The title of the book is The Resurrectionist and you can pretty much guess what this is going to lead up to. If you are a fan of some wacky science fantasy reading, this book is one you must read.
The Resurrectionist is a two-part book. The first half of it focuses on the biographic life of Dr. Black. It outlines his grave robbing past that was apparently used for anatomy studies. The second half of the book gets down to the nitty-gritty. It examines the anatomic breakdown of the creatures Dr. Black believes humans evolved from. They include drawings of the bone and muscle structure and closely resembles a medical guide. It’s a bit eerie and full-on weird. The artwork is done in such a way that if you had never seen a human before, you would believe that this was a true medical book of some kind. It looks legit and comes across as far more than just a book. It almost tries to pass itself off as a real reference book. Check price on Amazon!
