Anyone who creates miniatures understands the importance of the little details. Making tiny versions of things like squirrels, ducks, owls, and other animals take a lot of careful effort. If the Fannor Sandor miniature animal sculptures have taught us anything, though, it’s that the hard work makes it all worth it when you look at the final product. These anatomically correct dollhouse miniatures are made to a 1:12 scale and are small enough to sit on your fingers.
Sandor says she’s been fascinated by miniatures since she was small and created her first sculpture when she was six. It was made from candle wax, toothpicks, glue, and paper, and was the start of a 30+ year journey. The Fanni Sandor miniature animal sculptures are made possible through her background in biology. Sandor knows all of the tiny details for her small animals and wants to make her figures as realistic as she possibly can. The process begins with studying photos of the subject. From there, she makes a prototype sketch and then sculpts the piece using polymer clay and wire. The mold is baked and then refined with a chisel. Last but not least, Sandor breathes life into her little critters with some paint, fur, and feathers.
