We dare you to prove to us that mythical creatures are anything but scary. Any fantasy book or movie we have read or seen depicts these massive entities as larger-than-life and pretty freaking’ scary looking. And we haven’t even touched on their personalities yet. Hong-Kong-based illustrator Rudy Siswanto sees these monsters as something other than that. He looks at them and sees baby mythical creatures. As a result, he has created pieces of art that reflect his vision. Instead of hulking and intimidating, they are young and innocent.
The idea came from a project from Metal Weave Games where they conceived the concept of an RPG book that was populated by baby creatures. If you can’t imagine what it would look like, try to think of a mythical monster as an infant or toddler. If you can mentally grasp that, then you will understand what baby mythical creatures are all about – including diapers and soothers for some. Yes, it is a bit weird, but most innovative art is these days, and Siswanto’s is certainly fresh, new, unusual and a tad scary, but in a cute way.
